Dec. 16

Dec. 16
It's 4:00 in the morning and roosters are crowing. Ghana is just beginning to wake. Kenny is fast asleep beside me, and I feel so content I could stay in this moment for-almost-ever. I feel so emotionally grateful to be alive and living this life of mine. I always used to lie in bed listening to the world wake when I lived here. It was a time in my life where everything always felt perfect. It's so much harder to create moments like this in our busy world back home. Its almost like my spirit aches for the clarity of living in the simplicity of Ghana.

Eventually I got out of bed so we could get ready for church. Rosemond made egg sandwiches and I had my first cup of Milo since arriving in ghana. We visited the ward our friend Steven Acquah's family attends, and Doris's old neighbor auntie ama goes too. The singing still gives me a high. I really can't imagine
Anything I love more than their strong accents belting English hymns. In relief society auntie ama explained what they were speaking so I was able to participate a little.

After church we walked home with William and Erik, and i wanted to get home quickly because I was so excited to eat fufu and groundnut soup.  As we came in the door Doris was already pounding our fufu. She made Kenny try a couple times, but she took over like she always does. I really have no idea how she does it for so long. We finished all our fufu, and she was so pleased with us.

We took a walk to the castle to find Barshiru, and sure enough there he was asleep on a bench in front of his shop. I knelt beside and woke him up. I'm pretty sure he was in shock for the next 4 minutes. He couldn't stop saying how happy he was to see us. I think he has one of the sweetest personalities of anyone I know. I'm so glad he is still in cape. We went to find Muhammad, and I learned he had moved to Denmark. I truly wanted to cry I was so disappointed. I think some of the rastas will find me a number and email I can reach him on...hopefully!

Mercy my fruit lady remembered me, and because she is so short her hugs hit me right above my waist, and she was doing the lifting-bouncing kind of hug. Oh I was laughing so hard. She is the cutest lady. I will try to buy all my fruit from her over the next two weeks ha ha.

Today was the celebration party for Muhamma winning the election last week here in Ghana. The town was crazy, and everyone was swimming in their clothes beside the castle, near all the boats. I watched in amazement. It is by far the most Ghanaians I had ever seen swimming... In fact I only remember a few times while I lived here that I actually saw some one swimming.

We went to market to find fabric afterwords because Sunday market has 2x the amount of fabric being sold. After about 10 stops we finally went back to the first and bought the fabric I loved. We shall see if it looks good as a dress. My seamstress wasn't in yesterday so hopefully she still works there.

We spent the night playing with Jude and his cousins, and eating fried yam. It tastes almost exactly like french fries. Jude is a ball of energy and laughter. Every time things get quiet or calm Kenny is off looking for Jude to play with. Ha ha they are cute little friends.

Later that night we sat at the table with Doris and talked for ages. She is slightly obsessed with how we need to have a child, and not use anything to stop it. She kept saying let it come. Kenny and I decided to just nod our heads and agree with all she said because honestly I don't think there is anyway I could win this argument.  Always pick your battles wisely with Ghanaian women.

The night ended with another romantic bucket shower, and honestly it was so hot tonight that even Kenny took ages to fall asleep. I'm missing the fan in my old apartment here! So needless to say the dry season is hot, and we are constantly shining, and sticky.
